Persistent Juvenile Trespasser Arrested in LaPorte

A 17-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of criminal trespass after employees of the NIPSCO facility in LaPorte reported the suspect had been escorted off the property multiple times. According to the report, on Monday, Aug. 26, around 7:11 p.m., police responded to the facility at 1501 State Road 2 West to investigate a report of a young male who had been observed inside the fenced-in compound area.

The complainant told police that he was in his office when he saw a young male walking through the compound area. The man went outside to confront the teen, who told him that he was cutting across the property as a short-cut to go to K-Mart. The complainant then reportedly escorted the suspect back off the property.

Shortly thereafter, the suspect was observed trying to climb the fence to get back in, but he reportedly ran off after being spotted by the complainant. The complainant waited a few minutes, and saw the suspect back inside the compound for a second time. The teen told the complainant he’d lost his keys and was looking for them. He was escorted off the property again.

At 7:57 pm, police received a report that the same suspect was back inside the compound area for the third time. Officers confronted the 17-year-old male, who reportedly dropped a pair of wire cutters. He was taken into custody for criminal trespass and transported to the LaPorte County Juvenile Services Center.
