Tippecanoe River State Park is preparing to celebrate two holidays on Saturday, Aug. 10: Smokey Bear’s birthday and National S’mores Day. In light of these two celebrations, the park is planning a full day of activities featuring a chance to meet Smokey Bear and enjoy some s’mores and a beautiful look at stars.

Festivities begin at the family campground on Friday evening with a talk about Smokey Bear and his fire guidelines. On Saturday, the Nature Center is hosting a number of activities including a coloring contest from 10:30 a.m. to noon, a presentation at 2 p.m. entitled “Fires, Fire Towers, and Fire Use Today,” and some tasty desserts with Smokey Bear at 4 p.m.

The day wraps up with s’mores at the family campground in honor of National S’mores Day starting at 9 p.m. before the group moves to check out some stars with Steve and Debbie Russell.
