A 24-year-old man is in custody following the death of a 3-year-old child who was shot and killed at a residence on Farmington Drive in Terrace Acres Mobile Home Park in Michigan City. At approximately 3:36 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, officers from the Michigan City Police Department were summoned to the home in reference to a child who had been shot, and upon arrival, officers determined that the child was deceased as the result of the gunshot wound. The child was identified as Lance Wilson.

The Michigan City Police Department requested the assistance of the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, and investigators soon arrived, working alongside the city police. The joint investigation concluded in the arrest of the boyfriend of the child’s mother, 24-year-old Zachariah L. Grisham.

A probable cause hearing was held in LaPorte County Superior Court I yesterday afternoon and after hearing oral testimony, Judge Steven King found sufficient probable cause to issue a criminal warrant for Grisham. He now faces formal charges of Neglect of a Dependent, a Class A felony and Reckless Homicide, a Class C felony. He is currently being held in the LaPorte County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Grisham had been living with the victim and his mother at a trailer located at Terrace Acres Mobile Home Park.
