LaPorte Man Arrested on Battery Charges

A LaPorte man was arrested Monday afternoon on battery charges.

The victim told police that her live-in boyfriend, Donald Dotson, was drunk and disorderly. They had argued about his drinking and during the course of the verbal argument, he allegedly pushed her, held her down, broke her cell phone and strangled her around the neck until she lost consciousness.

Officers noted in the report that the victim had a torn shirt and visible injuries on her shoulder and throat/neck area, plus a cut on her forehead.

Dotson had sustained several scratches on his face, neck and behind his ear. He only stated to police that the couple argued and he was dealing with personal issues.

Dotson was arrested on preliminary charges of Battery by Strangulation, a Class D felony, and Class A misdemeanor charges of Domestic Battery and Interference with Reports of a Crime.
