Roy Bell Sentencing Hearing Set for Today

A man convicted of murdering former Knox resident Wilma Upsall will be sentenced in Fulton County Superior Court this afternoon.

Judge Wayne Steele found Roy Bell guilty during a bench trial on Aug. 27. Bell was found guilty on six counts: Murder, Murder in the Commission of Another Crime (Burglary), Murder in the Commission of Another Crime (Robbery), Burglary, Robbery and Criminal Confinement.

Several officers testified to the events that occurred that surrounded Upsall’s death, including Upsall’s son-in-law. Roy Bell was found to have broken into the home Upsall shared with her daughter and son-in-law in Rochester, bound her to a chair using telephone cords, stole several guns and other items from the home, and then shot Upsall in the back as she was tied to the chair.

Sentencing arguments will be heard at 1:15 p.m. ET in Fulton County Superior Court.
