A Knox Middle School student is in need of a heart transplant and a benefit to help gather funds for that procedure is set for later this month.

Christina Franks, 13, was diagnosed with an enlarged heart two years ago and was hospitalized in July at Riley Hospital for Children as the left ventricle in her heart was failing. She did have surgery in August to install an exterior heart pump which has taken over the work of her heart until she receives a heart transplant.

She has suffered a couple of setbacks. She suffered a stroke after a surgery to install a pacemaker and heart defibrillator and this has affected the movement in her arms and legs.

A fish fry benefit to help collect funds for Christina’s heart transplant is set for Friday, Oct. 25 at the Knox Moose Family Center from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. CT. An $8 ticket may be purchased at Cambe Chevrolet or at the Demotte State Bank.

If you would like to send a card or letter of encouragement to Christina, send those to Riley Hospital, Room #2135, Unit PICU South, 705 Riley Hospital Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46202.
