Knox Corporation Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Peggy Shidaker, gave a comprehensive ISTEP+ and NWEA testing report to the school board Monday night.

Superintendent A.J. Gappa said Shidaker highlighted where the students needed work and where the scores stood at the elementary and middle schools.

“Some areas were high like our 5th grade math that was over 90 percent, but other areas were not so high,” said Gappa. “We’re going to work on improvements. She pointed out the strengths and weaknesses of each area in Language Arts and Math and then moved on to correlate that with the NWEA test results – what we’ve learned and how we can kind of predict where kids are on their NWEA test and if they’re going to pass the ISTEP+ test or not. It’s almost a one-to-one correlation.”

Gappa explained that the staff is working hard with remediation tactics.

“We’re meeting in grade-level groups for data meetings and moving forward to work on the weaknesses that the kids have.”
