LaPorte City Police Department Reports Busy September

September was a busy month for the LaPorte City Police Department as officers worked 21 hours of Operation Pull Over seat belt patrols that resulted in 41 citations and 26 warnings. This is the last set of Operation Pull Over activities for the current federal fiscal year which ended Sept. 30.

The LaPorte City Police Department has received an Operation Pull Over grant worth $22,500 for next year which will fund 700 hours of dangerous driving, impaired driving and seat belt patrols.

Operation Pull Over is a traffic safety program which targets impaired driving, seat belt and child restraint violations, plus dangerous driving. Type of dangerous driving include speeding, stop sign/signal violations, aggressive driving and distracted driving. While texting is probably the distracted driving behavior that we most commonly think of, there are many other sources of distracted driving: eating and drinking, pets and passengers, grooming, and radio/climate control.

Officers urge you to give your driving your full attention at all times.
