The Starke County Public Library will soon be hosting a discussion with a recently published author who will explain the headache-inducing process of getting a book published. Rachael Herbert-Varchetto, program coordinator at the library, said Amanda Barber, author of “The Pursuit of Elizabeth Millhouse,” will talk about some of the difficulties she had in getting her work published.

“Amanda Barber is going to come in and talk about sort of the troubles that she had publishing the book and sort of give people inspiration to go and get their own book published. It took her six or seven tries, which is pretty standard, and possibly more than that to get the book published, but she just kept trying. She had one publisher that sat on it for three months before they gave her a rejection letter about it,” said Herbert-Varchetto.

The discussion will take place this afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m.

Herbert-Varchetto said Barber is a Michigan native who wants to help inspire other aspiring authors to keep writing and, as hopeless as it may seem at times, continue trying to get their work out there.

“She’s just a really sweet, energetic young lady and if you’d like to come and get a little bit of inspiration, hear about some of the pitfalls and ways to get around those, go ahead, sign up and come in. We still have a sign-up sheet ready,” Herbert-Varchetto said.
