The Knox City Council will meet tonight to discuss a number of agenda items.

The water line easement for the new Starke County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center will be discussed. The city is putting in water lines that will extend from Henry Drive to the property on County Road 550 East.

At the last city council meeting on Oct. 22, Knox City Attorney David Matsey explained that one of the property owners of the easement would like to strike a sentence in the agreement which states, “Provided further, that if Owner makes any use of the easement that increases the city operation and maintenance and or restoration costs, then the Owner shall pay for the increase in costs.” Matsey said that omitting the sentence could cause liability issues down the road.

A decision was made that Matsey would discuss the issue with County Attorney Martin Lucas and the property owners and report back during this meeting.

The council will discuss this and hear reports from Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston and Mayor Rick Chambers.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. CT at Knox City Hall.
