Marshall County Officials Look to Reduce Road Repair Costs Caused by Horse and Buggy Units

The Marshall County Commissioners will be discussing what to do with horse and buggies and the damage they cause to the county’s roads in a future meeting.

Commissioner Jack Roose asked Highway Superintendent Neal Haeck Monday to see what Elkhart and LaGrange county highway departments do to reduce the cost on the wear and tear on roads.

Haeck said a buggy plate is required for those types of vehicles that travel on the roads in those counties and the money generated from the issuance of those plates is used for repairs to roads caused by horses and buggies.

Horses and buggies do travel in certain areas in Marshall County and create damage which requires extra work and expenses on the highway department budget. The commissioners will work to see how to reduce costs in a future meeting.
