The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Posse Unit will be conducting training this weekend and you are invited to watch the training.
The training will be today and tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT at the LaPorte County Fairgrounds. These sessions will focus on short classroom session and practical horsemanship skills and tactics the remainder of each day.
It’s nearing that time again; the trees at Norwayne Field will soon be decorated for Christmas, and a deadline of Nov. 8 has been set for those who decorated a tree last year and would like to decorate the same tree again this holiday season. Park board member Kay Reimbold told WKVI that this holiday tradition brings the spirit of Christmas to the North Judson community and serves to commemorate those who have been lost.
“What we’ve done for these last probably eight years or so is someone picks a tree at Norwayne Field and they decorate it whatever way they choose to. Most of them are all done in memory of a family member or a friend that has passed away, but they get to pick any style they want. The only thing we require is that they use the outside lights on the tree and they attach things securely so that the wind or the weather doesn’t blow them off,” Reimbold said.

Ty Dillon dominated the field as he crossed the finish line in the first position in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Texas Motor Speedway Friday night. This was his third career win.
Dillon was ready to take the trophy and receive a Texas Motor Speedway special: a cowboy hat and the chance to fire a couple of six-shooters.
“Can’t wait to get that cowboy hat!” Dillon stated in a post-race interview on FoxSports 1. “I won at Texas!”
Carl Edwards raced his #99 Aflac Ford for Roush-Fenway Racing straight to the top of the qualifying order Friday afternoon and will start there Sunday afternoon in the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Edwards posted a top speed of 196.114 mph. Brad Keselowski will start on the outside pole. This is Keselowski’s 15th top-10 start of 2013. Jimmie Johnson qualified third, followed by Paul Menard and Kyle Busch. Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Jeff Gordon, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr, and Marcos Ambrose round out the top 10 qualifiers.
The Sprint Cup race begins at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Jeb Burton has captured the Keystone Light Pole Award for tonight’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with a top speed of 179.432 mph. Justin Lofton will start in the second position, followed by Ty Dillon, Miguel Paludo and Max Gresham in the top five.
Brad Keselowski who was fastest in final practice yesterday will start in the 13th position. Points leader Matt Crafton will start right next to Keselowski in the 14th position. James Buescher will have a better starting spot in the 6th position. Buescher sits second in the championship standings.
The Winstar World Casino 350 will begin at 8:30 p.m. ET tonight at Texas Motor Speedway.
Martin Truex, Jr. will be driving for the #78 team in the 2014 season.
That was confirmed in a press conference Friday morning held by Furniture Row Racing in the Samsung Media Center at Texas Motor Speedway. Joe Garone, General Manager of Furniture Row Racing, officially welcomed Truex as the driver of the Furniture Row Chevrolet for the 2014 season. He has signed a multi-year contract with the team.
An accident at U.S. 30 and Union Road in Marshall County at 2:30 a.m. Friday claimed the life of 29-year-old Christopher Lowder of Knox.
A police investigation found that Lowder walked into the westbound lanes on U.S. 30 and into the path of an oncoming semi driven by an Ohio man. Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger stated that Lowder was killed instantly. Toxicology results are pending and should be released sometime next week.

LaPorte police are attempting to apprehend two women who are stealing cartons of cigarettes from gas stations.
A woman went into the Marathon gas station on State Road 2 in LaPorte County and requested two cartons of cigarettes. The clerk placed the cartons on the counter to ring them up, but the suspect grabbed them and ran out of the store.
This is not endorsed by either the Starke County Chamber of Commerce or the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce.
An article in National Geographic states that the federal government doesn’t require U.S. states or territories to observe daylight saving time. Residents in Arizona do not change clocks along with those in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the Virginia Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Marianas Islands.
Russia abolished daylight saving time in 2011 and Japan has not observed daylight saving time in over 60 years.
Before you go to bed on Saturday night, don’t forget to turn your clock back one hour as Indiana is a state that does recognize daylight saving time.
Now that you have all the candy you can obtain this Halloween, you should pace yourself and only eat a few pieces of candy a day. That’s according to Maggie Rowlands, certified dietary manager at Pulaski Memorial Hospital.
“If some of the candy is just not appropriate, then share with others,” suggests Rowlands. “I would definitely choose fresh fruit instead of candy. One or two pieces a day would be a good limit for the kids. They should brush their teeth before and after eating candy.” They should also visit their family dentist regularly to prevent the development of cavities or any other dental issues. The candy that children collect on Halloween can add up to about 11,000 calories. Sugar candies tend to be lower in calories than chocolate.

Heavy rainfall increases the possibility for flooding. Floods occur as streams and rivers overflow their banks, which can occur from deep snow run off or during heavy rainfall. Flash floods can occur rapidly and unexpectedly, after just a few minutes of heavy rain fall or hours of significant precipitation. Hoosiers who live in flood prone areas should always be conscious of the threat of flash floods when receiving significant rainfall.
Forty-five students at Culver Community High School are getting ready for this year’s Business Professionals of America district competition, and according to BPA Advisor Gene Baker, this year’s membership is the highest he’s seen in the three years he’s spent as the school’s BPA advisor. With nine more kids signed up for the organization than last year, Baker said it’s the best turnout the school has seen in a number of years.
Baker explained BPA is a national organization that aims to equip students with the workplace skills they need to succeed through a variety of different events and competitions.
