The Knox City Council this week signed several preliminary documents to begin the process of creating a comprehensive plan for the city at the behest of Emily Gross, the grant administrator for a planning grant to help cover the cost. Gross explained in a public hearing Tuesday night that interviews for consultants took place in December, but only one consultant applied.

However, Gross said Green3 Studios is partnering with an engineering company from Valparaiso to assist in creating the document that will help find a direction for the cities future.

Gross explained that they are still in the initial stages of the application process for the grant, but she is hopeful that city can submit the application within a month. The total cost of the project is estimated at $44,000 with a $4,400 local match from EDIT funds, with the rest of the costs to be covered by the Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

Mayor Rick Chambers said he would have liked a choice between consultants but he is comfortable with this company. A motion was made and approved unanimously to sign the preliminary documents and approved the resolution for the grant as well.
