A tailgating party featuring David Haugh and a special guest has been scheduled for Saturday, April 12 to benefit the elderly services programs offered by Community Services of Starke County. David Haugh is not only the son of Community Services Executive Director Joan Haugh, but also a graduate from North Judson-San Pierre, a former South Bend Tribune employee, and a current columnist for the Chicago Tribune.

Joan Haugh said the event features silent and live auctions of sports-related items, some of which are signed, as well as food and drink. The event is being held to benefit Community Services, allowing them to continue to provide their much-needed services.

“We’re hoping everybody saves April 12 on their calendar; it’s a Saturday evening, and starting at 5 o’ clock we’re having a fundraiser for Community Services for our elderly services programs, because due to the funding cuts that we’ve been getting, we just need to make a concerted effort to bring in more money for those programs so that we may continue them,” Haugh said.

The fundraiser includes items such as signed jerseys, footballs, and bats, and even box seat tickets to an upcoming game. Other items will also be auctioned.

Haugh said she hopes the event will draw out not just sports fans, but everyone interested in keeping the organization afloat.

“We are having our fundraiser that evening, and we’ll be having tailgating, food, and a silent auction. We have a lot of neat items that we wish to auction off that night. But we’re just hoping it will draw sports fans and anyone that’s interested in supporting Community Services of Starke County,” said Haugh.

The event is scheduled for April 12 at 5 p.m. at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox.
