A Star City man and his wife suffered non-life threatening injuries after being involved in an accident with a state police trooper’s vehicle on Wednesday morning.

Master Trooper Aaron Segrest was in his unmarked police vehicle with emergency lights on investigating a two vehicle crash on I-65 northbound south of the U.S. 30/Merrillville exit. He was parked on the outer shoulder of the road.

Melldoran Rambo, 61, of Star City was northbound in the left lane approaching the crash scene when he was cut off by a semi which forced him to brake suddenly to avoid a collision. This caused Rambo to lose control of the vehicle and he spun out across all lanes of I-65 and hit the police car. Rambo’s vehicle hit the police vehicle in the right quarter panel and came to rest blocking both lanes of I-65.

The police trooper was taken to a Hobart hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Melldoran Rambo and his wife were taken to a Merrillville hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
