Friday is Last Day to Run Water in Knox, Hamlet

Warmer weather seems to have finally made its way to the Kankakee Valley, but some areas are still suffering from the horror that is frozen water pipes. Fortunately, the Knox City Water Department this week announced that after Friday, they will no longer request that residents run their water to stave off frozen pipes.

The ground is beginning to thaw, and the water department has plans to read meters on Friday – after that, no more adjustments will be given for leaving the water running.

The town of Hamlet will be doing the same, but for Winamac, Town Manager Jim Conner said four or five services are still frozen and have not yet thawed out, so they’re still requesting people run water a bit longer. It has warmed up a bit, he said, and hopefully within the next week those services will thaw and people can stop running their water.
