Plymouth School Corporation Hire Creates School Board Vacancy

plymouth schools logoThe Plymouth School Board is seeking to fill a vacancy.

Gary Cook resigned in order to avoid a conflict of interest after being hired by the corporation to fill a newly-created position. He’s the corporation’s new security systems monitor.

Superintendent Daniel Tyree said during Monday’s board meeting that Cook was one of 18 applicants for the job.

“He rose to the top very quickly because of his experience in the police force and professional manner in which he approached the interview,” Tyree said. “The only conflict is Gary is a member of our board, and we knew the outcome if we selected him and he chose the job. We intend to make the selection, and Gary chose the job. I think we’re really blessed to have someone of Gary’s caliber in this position.”

Cook will monitor the closed-circuit video system in all of the corporation’s buildings. Tyree says having someone dedicated to do so will allow school officials to respond quickly to any security threats. He says security is only as good as the people you have reacting to the situation.

The school board voted unanimously to ratify the appointment, with Cook abstaining, of course. His departure leaves a vacancy in the school board district III position.

Interested applicants have until Wednesday, April 16 to submit letters of interest. Candidates should be available for interviews on Thursday, April 17, beginning at 6 p.m. EDT. Cook’s replacement will be appointed during a special meeting on Tuesday, April 29 at 7 p.m.

Interested applicants can send their letters to:
