Seat Belt and Impaired Driving Patrols Scheduled in April in LaPorte

Officers with the LaPorte City Police Department will be working 40 hours of Operation Pull Over funded seat belt patrols in April. Impaired driving patrols will be held every weekend in April that are organized through the LaPorte County DUI Taskforce.

LaPorte City Police Department officers have investigated several accidents so far this year. Severe weather and alcohol contributed to most of the accidents.

The department investigated 188 property damage and 29 personal injury crashes with six of those being alcohol related. That’s 56 more accidents that were recorded during the same time last year. Police believe that severe weather conditions experienced this year account for most of the increase in crashes.

LaPorte officers urge you to buckle your seat belt and never text while driving. Be patient and considerate of other motorists and obey traffic laws.
