Eastern Pulaski School Board Approves Additional Appropriation for Change to Calendar Budget

The Eastern Pulaski School Board held a public hearing during their meeting Monday requesting an additional appropriation.

The school board approved a change from a fiscal year budget to a calendar year budget. A fiscal year budget has an operation from July 1 to June 30.  With the change to a calendar budget, the school board won’t have funds to operate from July to December as the corporation makes the transition.

Superintendent Dan Foster said the purpose of the public hearing was to appropriate money for the rest of the year.

“What that does is basically takes our previous budget and adds six months to that so that so will get us from July 1 through December of this year,” explained Foster. “Like several of the other local schools, we’ll be doing a budget in the late summer or early fall which we’ll have approved in October. That’ll be sent away and be ready to go in January. We’ll be on cycle with 99.9 percent of all of the other schools.”

With Eastern Pulaski moving to a calendar year budget, only one other school corporation in the state is left operating on a fiscal year budget.
