Fiery Toto Road Crash Under Investigation

The Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Division is still investigating a fiery crash on Toto Road that sent a North Judson man to a South Bend Hospital. It happened Friday, Aug. 8 at 8:45 p.m. on Toto Road at 200 East, according to a news release from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department.

A motorcycle driven by Michael Young, 55, of North Judson, was westbound on Toto Road approaching 200 East when a car driven by Paula McMahon, 63, of Knox turned left from Toto Road onto 200 East in front of him. Young’s bike hit McMahon’s car, bounced off and was struck by a second vehicle driven by Shannon Hansen, 35, of North Judson. The impact of that crash caused the bike’s gas tank to rupture. The motorcycle and car then caught fire. Young was airlifted to Memorial Hospital of South Bend, where he’s listed in critical but stable condition. Neither McMahon nor Hansen were injured.
