Blood Supplies Dwindling, Donations Needed

Blood is in short supply in Indiana. American Red Cross officials say donations dropped significantly over the summer. That’s due in part to donors taking vacations. Also, many blood donation drives occur at schools, which are out for the summer.

An American Red Cross blood drive will take place during next weekend’s Yellowstone Trail Festival in Hamlet from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16 at the fairgrounds. Blood drives are also scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Oregon-Davis High School and from noon until 6 p.m. at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox.

Double red cells and blood will be accepted at both locations on the 26th. Donors must be in good health, weight at least 116 pounds and be at least 17, although 16 year olds can donate blood with parental consent.
