Domestic Violence Centers Receive Additional Funds

 
 

An additional $1.2 million was approved for domestic violence centers by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute’s Victim Services Subcommittee and a portion of that money will benefit local centers.

Domestic Violence Treatment and Prevention Council members reviewed the domestic violence shelters’ budgets and plans on how they would utilize immediate assistance and short term support to victims of domestic violence.

The Heminger House Shelter for Women and Children in Marshall County was one of five applicants that was chosen for first-time awards. They received $16,915 in funding.

Heminger House representative Laura Mann recently requested funding assistance from the Marshall County Council and the Marshall County Commissioners to keep the facility open as federal funding was cut. A decision on that request has not yet been made.

The Stepping Stone Shelter for Women, Inc. in LaPorte received $78,148 in funding from this round of awards.
