Twenty schools competed for the top ten spots to advance to state on Nov. 8th at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Their gold rating received at the Indiana State School Music Association regional competition earned the band a slot to compete at the semi-state round. Band director Craige Phipps said the band unfortunately didn’t make it to the next round but had a great show.

“Everything went well. The kids were very happy with their show. The parents were happy with the show. I was extremely proud of my students,” said Phipps.

Phipps added the students set a goal at the beginning of the year for themselves.

“It was their goal all season long to make semi-state finals. They were ecstatic when that happened and everything after that for them was just like icing on the cake. They really wanted to make state but the fact that they didn’t make state still made them very proud of their season. The thing that impressed me the most with these kids is how much they loved their show and got behind it,” added Phipps.

Phipps says the band competed in class C with many other schools in the state. He said Class C is the most competitive class in the state.
