Quotes Approved for New Street Department Truck

The Knox Board of Public Works met Monday morning where quotes were opened for a cab and chassis plus equipment for a truck for the street department.

The board members approved the lowest quote for the cab and chassis for a 2016 International from Wiers International for $64,143.75 and an equipment quote from Lindco Equipment for $54,665 that includes hydraulics, salt spreader, plow, electrical, dump body, and hoist system. The quotes will be reviewed by Street Superintendent Jeff Borg and City Attorney David Matsey.

In addition, Borg told the board that he has completed the IDEM composting facility annual report. The department reported 308 tons of composting material which includes leaves, grass and garden material.

The workers at the street department also hauled 35 30-yard loads and 20 13-yard loads of vacuumed leaves. From the area north of City Hall, 98 dump truck loads of leaves, grass and garden material were collected this year. Borg said 218 dump truck loads of brush were hauled.

Borg added that it’s been quiet so far this winter so the crews have been out street sweeping and doing other duties.

Wastewater Superintendent Kelly Clemons told the board the street department helped her department in getting rid of tree roots that were blocking a line in the 600 block of St. Louis Street all the way to New York Street.
