Second Meeting Held for Knox Comprehensive Plan Development

City_of_Knox_LogoThe City of Knox held a second public meeting Thursday night that continues collecting information in the development of the City’s comprehensive plan.

The process is being undertaken after a grant was received to fund the development of the plan. Once completed, the City hopes targeted areas for development, infrastructure, and connectivity can be identified.

Knox Mayor Rick Chambers says things are still in the planning phase.

“In talking with the campus corridor, we thought we haven’t touched base with the hospital and the schools yet so I have sent them e-mails [Friday] morning to try to draw them in, get them involved, and see what their future plans are so they can coordinate with our future plans,” says Chambers.

Thursday night, area students were invited to provide comments on their efforts to transform a vacant downtown corern, otherwise known as Serenity Park. The students are selling bricks to raise money. Mayor Chambers says the City is working to revitalize the community’s downtown, meaning the students will contribute to that process.

Green3, the city’s consultant for the plan’s development, continues to focus on the areas residents designated as important. Chambers says all of the ideas fall together at this point.

“They took the main ideas that people had the most interest in and that’s what Green3 is focusing on,” says Chambers.

Input gathered will also be incorporated by the Steering Committee – made up of residents and businesses – into the future Comprehensive Plan. That document is expected to be adopted in May of this year.
