Wind Chill Warning in Effect for Kankakee Valley

Bundle up before you head out, as a wind chill warning is in effect for northern Indiana through Thursday. A combination of very cold air and strong winds will make temperatures feel like they are in the 15 to 30-below-zero range. Frostbite, hypothermia and death are possible if precautions are not taken.

Frostbite is most common on the fingers and toes and exposed areas like cheeks, chin, nose and ears. It’s characterized by cold skin and a prickling feeling, followed by numbness, red, white, bluish or grayish-yellow skin with a hard, waxy appearance. Blistering may occur in severe cases.

Hypothermia symptoms include intense shivering, slurred speech and drowsiness and loss of coordination.
