Starke County Commissioners Approve Sheriff’s Vehicle Purchase

Starke County Sheriff's Department BadgeThe Starke County Sheriff’s Department will soon have a 2015 Ford Police Interceptor All-Wheel Drive sport-utility vehicle to add to the fleet. It will replace the Dodge Durango currently used by the Starke County K-9 officer. That truck will be repainted and given to Starke County Coroner Adam Gray to transport bodies.

The new SUV will cost the county $29,750. It comes equipped with a push bar and a light bar but will still need to have additional police lights and electronic equipment added.

Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin asked the commissioners Monday to replace three vehicles. He noted the county has fallen behind on the fleet life-cycling and said some of the cars will require extensive, costly repairs in order to be roadworthy. The commissioners did not make any decisions on the other vehicles, as they would like to review the quotes and revisit the matter at their next meeting.
