A nonproift organization dedicated to serving youngsters in Starke County is the recipient of funds from the Indiana First Lady’s Charitable Foundation. Starke County Youth Club Executive Director Irene Szakonyi and Melissa Smith accepted the honor during a Tuesday reception at the Governor’s residence.
“The Starke County Youth Club is one of those organizations that is doing great work for our Hoosier children and families, and it is an honor to recognize them today,” First Lady Karen Pence said.
The Starke County Youth Club, Inc. exists to support children and families. That support takes place after school and in the summer and makes an impact on a child’s academic and personal success, their creation of a future story and their investment in their community.
The SCYC was among 35 organizations from across the state recognized at Tuesday’s gathering. The Indiana First Lady’s Charitable Foundation gave a total of $30,500 to organizations and charities that serve Hoosier families and children.
“We are proud to be able to do such great work for children and families in our community,” Szakonyi said. “This recognition and award from the First Lady’s Foundation is truly wonderful!”
