Indiana’s Democratic U.S. Senator recently participated in what some are calling a civil rights pilgrimage.

Senator Joe Donnelly traveled to Selma, Alabama on Sunday with other state residents to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday.

Donnelly, and two other Hoosiers joined civil rights leaders in marching across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. It’s the site where some in the civil right’s movements of the 1960’s were received with violence by local authorities.

Residents who joined Senator Donnelly from South Bend and Evansville said they felt the anniversary of Bloody Sunday was a chance to relive history.

Donnelly described the occasion as bipartisan. Two presidents were in attendance.

The Senator says that commemorating the anniversary of Bloody Sunday was a meaningful experience.
