Sen. Donnelly Urges Decision on Clean DHS Funding

U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly is urging members of the House of Representatives to approve appropriations for a federal department through September of this year.

A stopgap bill designed to fund the Department of Homeland Security for one week passed the House on Friday evening. That followed a failed House vote to fund the DHS for three weeks.

Multiple releases from Indiana’s elected representatives in Congress suggest ongoing issues with executive action taken by President Barack Obama reforming the nation’s immigration system.

Donnelly says in a press release that he agrees the President should not have acted unilaterally, but blamed the House for failing to enact immigration reform and the resulting DHS funding issues.

Repealing the President’s executive action is being considered in negotiations on DHS appropriations according to Donnelly.

The Granger Democrat’s comments followed earlier efforts made by Indiana’s House delegation urging him to discontinue voting against allowing debate on the House version of the bill in the Senate earlier this year.
