Starke County IT Director Joe Short can replace a network server and several computers that pose security threats to the network. The county commissioners Monday authorized him to spend $24,000 from the cumulative capital fund on the technology upgrades.
The server carries a price tag of $16,000, and Short says computers typically cost about $1,000 each. He needs to replace six machines that run on the Microsoft Windows XP software platform. The company no longer supports the software, and it is vulnerable to security threats.
