A local physician with deep roots in Starke County is making a change. Dr. Curtis Bejes is a North Judson native who has been practicing medicine in his home town for 18 years.

“Although I’ve enjoyed my time here immensely, I’ve decided to take some time away from my practice,” Bejes said. He added he’s not selling his home or leaving the area for good. He is taking a year off to do other things.

“I do plan to do some teaching in a family practice residency. I also plan to do some work in underserved areas of our country and just take some time off for myself,” Bejes added.

Bejes said he’s enjoyed the privilege of taking care of so many people in the community over the past 18 years. He says his plan is to be away from the area for a year and come back with a renewed passion for medicine. Meanwhile, Bejes says his office and staff in North Judson will remain intact.

“Nurse practitioner Kimberly Mendez has been with me for two-and-a-half years providing excellent care to patients. She’s still going to be there. Dr. Tom Browne, Dr. Neil Abdu and Jennifer Frasure from Knox are going to be coming over on a regular basis also to provide care.”

Bejes recently sent letters to his patients notifying them of his plans. His leave of absence will begin in early June.
