No Charges Filed in Connection With Fatal Crash

Formal charges have not been filed against the driver of a pickup truck involved in Tuesday night’s fatal crash west of North Judson. Starke County Prosecutor Nicholas Bourff tells WKVI News blood tests done on 46-year-old Steven D. Cambe of Wheatfield were negative for alcohol. Additional tests for other controlled substances and prescription medication are pending, as is an Indiana State Police accident reconstruction report.

Both will take longer than 48 hours to complete. Bourff says that’s as long as a suspect can be jailed before finding probable cause. He adds the crash site on State Road 10 at 700 West was investigated during evening and daylight hours. Based on the evidence presented, Bourff says his office has declined to file charges at this time.

Cambe’s pickup truck struck a 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by 44-year-old Charles Hill of North Judson. He and his wife, 44-year-old Patricia Hill were both thrown from the bike. Deputy Coroner Kris Rannells says they died at the crash site of blunt force trauma. Cambe was arrested Tuesday night on preliminary charges of reckless homicide.
