Each year, residents of Pulaski County are encouraged to learn more about the health services that are offered in their area.

On Saturday, Pulaski Memorial Hospital will host their annual health fair. The event invites about 35 vendors to discuss what is happening at the hospital as well as some of the hospital’s community partners.

Hospital Community Outreach Coordinator Carol Sparks says the fair has changed quite a bit over the last 10 years.

“We said instead of just focusing on one thing at a time, let’s bring it all together, add some of our community partners to the mix, and then people come through and get a lot of information,” says Sparks.

Those attending the fair on Saturday will have an opportunity to learn more about blood pressure, receive their Body Mass Index, and peruse exercise equipment.

Around 200 individuals venture through the doors during the event, but Pulaski Memorial Hospital is hoping to attract more this year. The fair will also offer residents tips on smoking cessation, and present information about oncology and cancer treatments.

Sparks says the event offers information for future health problems.

“Usually people will come and check out this kind of event and may not need it for a while and then go ‘oh yeah, I need this now. Where did I see this information?’ and say I can contact Pulaski Memorial Hospital and find out how to go to the next step,” says Sparks.

The health fair will run from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
