Starke County Clerk Assesses Election

It was her first election, but there may be a few things she’d like to change.

Starke County Clerk Vicki Cooley was elected in November of 2014, and was able to test her knowledge during this month’s Primary Municipal Election. The primary saw few contested races, but additional candidates are expected prior to the General Election.

Providing comments after a Starke County Election Board meeting, Cooley said she believes things went smoothly.

“I will take each idea into consideration and will check on the IC codes and even compare with how other counties are addressing some of the issues that were brought up,” says Cooley.

Several of the poll worker mentioned they wanted additional voting machines to better handle foot traffic.

Officials with Starke County believe November’s General Primary Election could bring plenty of voters to cast ballots. Despite a few criticisms, Cooley says it is difficult to make everyone happy.

Still, several ideas worked well, including having one central location for voters.

“Probably we need to check into some of the other locations because we’re going to be having town elections, or conventions, as well,” says Cooley.

The Republican Party has until July 6th to attract candidates to the ballot for several municipal offices.

Cooley says her plans will now turn to preparing for November’s races.
