A 20-year-old Knox man faces a child molestation charge stemming from an alleged relationship with a 12-year-old girl who recently gave birth to his child. Knox Police Officers arrested Angel R. Delapaz on Wednesday after an extensive investigation. They were notified by the Indiana Department of Child Services last December that the child had been sexually involved with an adult male and was pregnant.
The girl was removed from her home in February and placed in foster care. Court documents indicate she gave birth to a 3-pound, premature baby boy at Porter Regional Hospital on June 7. Court-ordered DNA tests indicate Delapaz is the father. The girl told police she and Delapaz started seeing each other last October. Investigators allege they continued to see and contact each other after the girl was placed in foster care. The girl reportedly told police she knew Delapaz was 20 and he knew she was 12. She also told detectives Delapaz had given her a wedding ring set and said the two had plans to run away together.
