Knox Recovers Funds Through Utility Liens

The City of Knox recently recovered nearly $1,300 in delinquent utility bills by filing property liens.

Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston told the city council $1,295.70 in liens were paid off during the spring property tax installment. Houston says the process has proven very effective for the city with regard to collecting money owed. Property owners pay taxes in May and November. Houston says he gives county officials a list of property owners who are at least $50 in arrears a month before tax bills are due. Liens must be paid before property ownership can be transferred.
