Kid’s Closet Ministry Hosts School Supply Drive for Local Students

Kids Closet_01Kids Closet Ministry is a local organization that benefits Starke County children in need. Not only do they provide clothes and shoes to kids all year long but they also annually provide school supplies to students who cannot afford them. Plenty of summer break is still left but students will be returning to school next month. Today they will have stations posted in front of local stores across the county.

Founder and director Linda Lewandowski shared the details with WKVI news, “We will be outside the doors of the Dollar General stores in Knox and North Judson from 8 to 2 collecting school supplies for kids in need.” The school supply drive helps ensure that all the students in need will be able to receive assistance. The organization does receive some funding through the generosity of grants but that only allows them to purchase so much.

Lewandowski said they predict more students than even before at this year’s ‘Pack-a-Backpack’ event, “We look through the different school lists for each grade level and so we go through that list for that child and we fill their backpack with what they need. Last year we had 250 children walk through the doors of the fellowship hall at the Methodist church and this year we’re expecting even more. ”

This weekend patrons are encouraged to pick up a few things to donate while they’re doing their shopping inside the stores and around town. Supplies such as pencils, erasers, notebooks, folders, binders and anything else your recall needing as a student will help significantly. There’s nothing worse than the feeling of being unprepared, help Kids Closet Ministry ensure that no Starke County student will have that feeling on the first day of school. The school supply stations will be located at the 611 E Talmer Ave in North Judson and 21 S Main St in Knox outside the Dollar General stores.
