Knox Fireworks Gate Fees Exceed 2014 Total

City of Knox Independence Day fireworks gate fees, at the Starke County Airport, totaled $3,660, topping the $3,100 total from 2014. Knox Mayor Rick Chambers told the City Council when it met Tuesday evening, that the top total was the 2009 event, which was $3,750.

In other business, the Council accepted a piece of property in the Parkview Heights area of the city, donated by Patricia and Michael Owens. The overgrown property has no building on it and could be valuable to the city in future plans for that area.

Consideration was given to a petition from resident Steve Dodge, seeking to establish a street on an existing alleyway between Bower and Portland Streets, near 801 South Portland. Dodge presented research, going back to 1895, showing that a 33-ft-wide street was originally dedicated there. Currently, the unplatted alley is a narrow one-way dirt path. Council members are expected to make an on-site inspection of the area and return to the discussion of the petition at its next meeting.

Other Council business included discussion of ordinance violations of signs, parking and vehicles abandoned on city streets.
