LaPorte Police Officers Now Carrying Lifesaving Drugs

Naloxone kitAll LaPorte City Police Department officers are carrying a potentially lifesaving drug used in cases of opiate overdoses while on patrol.

Indiana University Health has donated Naloxone kits to each officer. State law allows them to be used in cases of overdoses on opiates like heroin. Police officers are often the first to respond to possible overdoses, and having the kits available will allow them to quickly administer treatment. Whenever they do, EMS will be called to assist. Intra nasal doses of Naloxone are easy to administer and have few if any side effects, according to law enforcement officials.
