New Flood Warnings Issued for Tippecanoe and Kankakee Rivers

 
 

Flood warnings continue through Saturday for the Tippecanoe River near Ora and the Kankakee River at U.S. 30.

Last night at 11 the Tippy was holding steady at 11.6 feet, with minor flooding forecast. Flood stage is 12 feet, and the river is expected to rise above that this afternoon. It should crest around 12.5 feet tomorrow night and fall below flood stage Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. At 12.5 feet flooding starts to affect homes near the river.

Minor flooding is also forecast for the Kanakakee River, which was holding steady at 9.4 feet late last night. Flood stage at U.S. 30 is 10 feet, and the river is expected to rise above that this afternoon. The National Weather Service predicts it will crest near 10.3 feet around 1 tomorrow morning and fall below flood stage early Friday evening. At 10 feet flooding of low-lying agricultural areas begins.
