Society of Innovators Still Seeking Nominees

society of innovators logoThe Society of Innovators at Ivy Tech Community College is looking for northwest Indiana residents who are finding new solutions to old problems. Nominations are being accepted through Monday for innovators in the seven-county northwest Indiana region. Past honorees include BraunAbility founder Ralph Braun and the North Judson-based Kemin-Lambert Spearmint Team. Society of Innovators Managing Director John Davies says innovation is universal.

“Anyone in the world can be an innovator. If you’re a small business owner and you develop a better way to convert prospects into buyers, you’re an innovator.”

Last year a team from Thermo Products, Inc. was inducted into the Society of Innovators for their development of an ultra-high efficiency furnace. In 2012 the Rural and Rustic Tourism group formed through a partnership with the Starke County Chamber of Commerce was recognized, and in 2011 the Starke County Economic Development Foundation was lauded for the development of the lead track facility in the Knox Industrial Park. Davis says creativity and innovation are keys to helping solve problems in new ways.

“[If you are a manager and you come up with a better idea to motivate employees, you’re an innovator. If you’ve reinvented your job after losing too many jobs, you’ve reinvented your career – you’re an innovator.”

Davies adds innovation is something everyday people do to live extraordinary lives.

“If you’re a stay-at-home mom and you discover a way to revitalize your neighborhood school, I guarantee you you’re an innovator.”
