Rainbow Splash to Benefit The Starke County Youth Club

Take a colorful walk through history for a good cause Sunday morning during the Yellowstone Trail Festival in Hamlet. Proceeds from the Rainbow Splash 2015 will benefit the Starke County Youth Club. Executive Director Irene Szakonyi says volunteer Hanna Clark organized the fun-filled 5K walk and run.

Participants will leave from the new Hamlet Volunteer Fire Department station next to the fairgrounds at 8 a.m. The route will encompass part of the Yellowstone Trail, which was the nation’s first transcontinental highway. The route from Massachusetts to Washington was developed during the early days of vehicle transportation. Locally it encompasses Starke, Railroad Streets and Old U.S. 30 in Hamlet.

Participants in the rainbow splash will be sprayed with food-grade colored cornstarch at stops along the way. Szakonyi says the object is to have fun, whether you run or walk.

The Starke County Youth Club provides after school enrichment programs for students at sites across the county. Szakonyi says they serve hundreds of youngsters. This year that includes returning students and new families who have been on their waiting list. Programs started Monday.
