Starke County Council to Consider Salary Ordinance Ranges

starke-county-courthouseThe Starke County Council will consider salary ordinance ranges for county employees when they meet this evening. Their agenda indicates proposed 1, 2 and 3 percent increases will be discussed, along with an adjustment to the state’s mileage rate.

Highway superintendent Rik Ritzler will offer an amendment to the 2016 highway department budget. IU Health Starke Hospital officials will present their quarterly capital asset report, and recently retired Community Services of Starke County Executive Director Joan Haugh will introduce her replacement. The North Judson-San Pierre Schools 2016 budget hearing will also take place during the meeting.

The council and commissioners will also make appointments to the county’s regional development commission and economic development commission boards. The commissioners agenda also includes discussion of EMS transfers, a proclamation regarding drug overdose awareness and a request to change the Davis Township polling site now that the new fire station is complete. Emergency Management Agency Director Ted Bombagetti will also ask the council to approve documents from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

Former veterans service officer Terry Turner is not on the advance agenda. He sent a letter to the commissioners last week requesting a hearing during a public meeting regarding the grievance he filed over his June 15th termination. He claims they violated their own handbook by not giving him a right to speak and also denied him his right to free speech and due process.

The Starke County Council meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the annex. The commissioners will meet there at 7.
