Business Owner Convicted on Felony Count of Resisting Officers Following January Car Chase

 A local business owner will be sentenced in January after he was convicted this week on a single felony charge.

Geoffrey Fulton is the owner of Fulton Bail Bonds. He was facing trial following an alleged January 2nd car chase.

According to the Starke County Prosecutor’s office, Fulton was traveling in the area of 400 North and U.S. 35, that day. Fulton passed two cars, one of which was a police vehicle providing assistance to a wrecked car that needed to be towed, according to this article. According to police, Fulton allegedly traveled too close to the vehicle. The incident caused officers to give chase.

The Prosecutor’s office accuses Fulton of failing to stop for police despite the use of lights and sirens, and you can find this piece of information here. He finally did stop his car on the overpass on U.S. 35, but claimed he was in possession of a firearm. The officer handling the incident proceeded to draw his weapon.

Fulton testified in Starke County Court, denying the officers’ claims. He was convicted this week on a single felony count of Resisting Law Enforcement. That’s a level six felony.

According to a press release, the six member jury returned a guilty verdict within 30 minutes of deliberation.

Fulton’s sentencing has been scheduled for January 28th.
