Residents Encouraged to Shop Small Today

Small Business Saturday Shop Small LogoToday is Small Business Saturday. Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce executive director Angie Anspach says it’s important to shop local, “It’s what keeps America going is its small businesses, so we’re really encouraging everyone to get out there and support our local businesses and local economy.”

Small Business Saturday was started five years ago by American Express. They estimate $14.3 billion was spent at small businesses nationwide during last year’s event.

Anspach says the event is good for local stores, “Coming from a small community and owning a small business myself, having all the local traffic that we can have and we can get to come in our business, it really helps our business, it helps the local economy, and it just keeps everything moving.”

Also expressing its support for Small Business Saturday is the Indiana Builders Association. IBA President Linda Rogers says most of the association’s members are owners or employees of small businesses. She says the housing industry, along with other small businesses, go a long way in creating jobs and building strong economies in local communities.
