Fraudulent Prescriptions Reported in LaPorte

Prescription FraudPolice in LaPorte are investigating reports of a woman who tried to fill several fraudulent written prescriptions for controlled substances at pharmacies around the city on Saturday.

Officers responded to the Walgreen’s at 1302 State Road 2 West around 1:30 p.m. after staff reportedly received fake prescription orders for Phenegren with codeine syrup and amoxicillin. Investigators say the script came from a medical clinic in Hobart and verified it was false.

A second complaint was received from the Kmart pharmacy a short time later. The stolen prescription note presented there came from Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, according to police. Pharmacy staff told officers they were contacted by their peers at the CVS and Kroger pharmacies regarding the suspicious activity.

The suspect is described as a heavyset black woman with very short, light-colored hair. She had not returned to pick up the prescriptions at the time the reports were taken. Anyone with information is asked to call the LaPorte Police Department at 219-362-9446. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online at www.lpcitypd.com.
