The man and woman police say fled from a Knox apartment where a meth lab exploded early this morning are lodged in the Starke County Jail.

Both 33-year-old Jacob Hanselman and 25-year-old Tiffany Shivley face charges of manufacturing methamphetamine. The Knox Police and Fire Departments were summoned to their apartment at the corner of Main and Lake Streets in downtown Knox just after midnight. Police say Hanselman, Shivley and a preschool-age child fled before they arrived but were apprehended later this morning at the Knox Burger King. The child was turned over to DCS.

Officers got a search warrant for the apartment, where they reportedly found evidence of meth manufacture. The Starke County Sheriff’s Office also assisted, and the Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab Team was called in for cleanup. A Knox Police Officer and a Starke County Sheriff’s Deputy were treated at IU Health Starke Hospital for chemical burns and released.
