Plymouth Man Arrested After Alleged Knox High School Kidnapping Incident

A man living in a Plymouth motel was arrested last week after Knox Police believe he was attempting to kidnap a local student.

Officers took a report from the parent of a Knox High School student after the parents had been notified by the school corporation that a man was attempting to pick their child up from school.

According to information released by the Knox Police Department, a phone call was made to the high school on November 24th. The caller explained that one Larry Smith was planning pick the student up after class.

School officials, however, found that Smith was not approved to retrieve the student from school. The parents were subsequently notified.

An investigation revealed that the 44-year-old Smith allegedly attempted to get the child into his vehicle. The student had already been turned over to their parents after class when Smith arrived.

The Knox Police Department says Smith was found to be living at the Economy Lodge Motel in Plymouth at the time. He was located in his motel room and taken into custody.

Smith was booked at the Starke County Jail on a Level Five felony count of Attempted Kidnapping.
