Starke County EMS Can Treat K9s

Starke County EMS is now equipped to treat the county’s officer dogs. Director Keith Emigh says his staff went through training recently to provide care to the sheriff’s office K9s should they be wounded in the line of duty.

He told the county commissioners this week EMTs and paramedics can provide the same treatment to the officer dogs as they can to humans.

Starke County EMS wrote a grant to obtain an airway mask for the dogs and recently received it. The Starke County Sheriff’s Office recently added a second K9 to the ranks after Det. Sgt. Adam Gray and Zardos graduated from training. The dog was purchased with donated funds. Det. Sgt. Rob Olejniczak’s  K9 partner, Terror, has been on the force for about a year. They are assigned to the day shift, while Zardos and Gray work nights. The North Judson Police Department also has a K9.
